Building Capacity In The Spirit
By Samson Paul, Adeniran
(Ezekiel 47:3-5) KJV
“And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ankles. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over”.
Spiritual Capacity Respond to your Response to the Order
As I stumbled on this passage of the scriptures, I saw a panting order for more of God in my spiritual walk. I saw how possible it is to grow from shallowness to a very deep experience in my walk with God. In fact, to an overflowing experience. I also saw how possible it is for me to have depth in God, such depth that nations can swim in.
There are certain rivers that are wide in the range and in term of land cover, or land mass, but are not deep. They are shallow. When you enter it, it could only reach your ankle. Some, to your knees. Whereas, there are also some that are wide and at the same time deep. They have the capacity to overwhelm man, they can baptize, overwhelme and even swallow whatever comes into it. Depth of Every river is in degree.
These are purely a comparison of our spiritual status.
The Need for Depth
There are certain men that are very wide, their scope of reasoning is wide. They have wide intellectual capacity. Wide vision and sensual understanding about life. In fact, some have wide knowledge of spiritual things, But they seems to be shallow. Their spiritual capacity cannot swallow deep things. They are the set of people that have water but only to the ankle regions , even to those at knees regions. Their water level has no capacity to baptize others. Their water level is only wide but not deep. They seem to have revelation, but no convictions. Their communion with God is shallow. They seem to live shallow Christian life. No depth. I hope you agreed with the parable of Christ that the seed that fell on the rock died because it has no depth (Matthew 13:5,6,20,21). May your spiritual walk not settle for such level in Jesus name! Amen.
Meanwhile, there’s another level God expects us to be. It’s a level of depth man cannot cross(Ezekiel 47:5). Wide and deep level. Depth of revelations and spiritual understanding. A level of deep spiritual experience. Deeper walk with God. Deeper communion with the Holy Spirit. A level where the deep calls to the deep. This level still exist, but only for few who are ready to measure another “one thousand cubit” (verse 5). Those who are ready to do more. Only this type of River has capacity to baptize others. Nations are waiting to swim in such Rivers.
Jesus declares in John 7:37-38 KJV
“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water”.
It means, this river is inside every believer. It’s inside you and I. The reason our spiritual experiences differ is because we operate from different levels of depth. Whatever is your level today, there’s always more. Capacity in the spirit is built largely through depth!
The Deep calls unto the deep. The depth of God is calling unto your depth. Will you respond to this call? If your river will be deeper, you must respond to a deeper communion with the Lord. You must measure “a thousand cubit deeper”
